Hi All! Welcome to the blog! Explore the page, interact with the page and most importantly read about the people who have made freeskiing the way it is today. Please feel free to write your thoughts so I can add them to the page! RIP FREESKIERS...

The Metapost

Starting this blog back at the beginning of February, initially as a University set project has now grown into something that is somewhat enjoyable and now something I would like to continue to blog about. The idea of the blog was based on my passion for skiing and the realisation of many top name athletes losing their life to the sport but no central area to embrace them. It also something that is based around a strong following audience, however constricted to a more specific idea (death in skiing) that will differentiate the blog from other more standard blogs (Just Skiing) and websites. So I started with simple posts capturing part of the athlete’s lives but since grown into other aspects of the blog and trying to ever expand. (This post is intended for my University work if you are interested in how my journey has gone please continue…)

Ski Community Foundations

Here are the links to some of the foundations that are dedicated to free-skiers who have died recently, these charities go along way to helping injured athletes, supporting athletes or bringing new things to this ever-growing sport.

There are plenty others out there and i’ll add any more that I come across. Write me a comment if you want to add your own.

Today’s memorial goes out to a special individual who had the highest outlook on life than any skier I have ever come across. Some people may have said he was unlucky and I certainly did but he was still an inspiration to everyone that knew him personally and those that knew him through the sport.

C.R Johnson in December, 2005 sustained a serious brain injury that sent him into a coma for 10 days. This happened during a film shoot for a ski movie; Show and Prove, where he was landed on by a fellow friend who jumped of a booter shortly after he had. This injury did not kill him but it left C.R in a baby state; he had to learn to eat, speak, walk again and eventually he relearned to ski.

C.R returned to his form starring in Everyday Is a Saturday (featured in the video above) and other highly rated ski films. He also Coached his best mate and top all round skier Tanner Hall (also featured in the video) and had a new lease on life that he shared with everyone he came into contact with.

“My Family, My Friends, and skiing… that’s it for me, that’s my life”

4 years after his critical injury, Febuary, 2010, he lost his life after another serious fall in Squaw Valley Ski Resort. He was skiing an extremely rocky face and hit an exposed rock which caused him to fall. The impact of loss on the ski community was huge.

Like other high profile athletes like Shane McConkey and Sarah burke, Cr Johnson has a Foundation in his name. To support athletes economically who sustain similar injuries to his. I will provide links to these charities in a later post which will have some more info so please check back later to give the ski community your support.
